The Riding Tests
The Motorcycle riding tests
comprise of three parts...
- Theory
- Practical part one slow speed and high speed motorcycle control. To be carried out off road at a DSA test centre
- Practical part two which will be carried out in Aberystwyth
The theory test itself is again divided into two parts...
- Theory - A test of your knowledge
of the Highway code, your
attitude to driving, the effects of drugs, alcohol and fatigue on
driver
behavior, basic knowledge of safety and environmental aspects of your
car or bike.
- Hazard Perception - You will be
shown 14 video clips of real road scenarios. You will be
scored on your ability to spot the developing hazard before it turns
into a danger. A score of 44 out of a possible 75 is required for a
pass.
The practical riding test...
- Part one includes manoeuvres carried out at slow
speed including a slalom, U turn and slow ride plus off bike handling
skills
- Two manoeuvres carried out at higher speed, of
which one should be in second or third gear, at a speed of at least 19
mph and one manoeuvres avoiding an obstacle at a minimum speed of 32 mph the other the emergency stop.
- During your practical road ride test you will be marked on every minor
fault
and you must not receive more than 15 minor errors and no serious or
dangerous faults.
- You will no longer be required to carry out the
two special
exercises being the U turn and the emergency stop during your road ride
as you would have done them during your part one practical.
As a rider you must comply with the minimum requirement for the eye
sight test. You must be able to read a car number plate with 79.4mm
figures from a distance of 20.5 meters either with or without
spectacles/contact lenses. |
